Wrapping my brain around the five-year span since September 11th has been difficult, in so far as measuring time and the crushing potency of how real that still feel to me. Amidst the reconstruction, the politics, the changes and the departures is the potent horror which I believe believe is a key – the key – relic. But I wonder has it somehow turned into just a collective foggy memory?
Sometimes I think about a man I never knew, Ma’s cousin, an employee of Marsh & McLennan, who we read in The Washington Post, died in the Towers. I don’t remember ever meeting him but reading about his life I can tell that he definitely was a round peg in the family.
Ma is so strange, always marching to a drummer that the rest of us can’t follow. The most important thing she had to tell me today was that she’s obsessed with that American Idol Show, Rock Star: Supernova. That factoid is hilarious as so is Kapalm. I never thought to ask her what she thinks of Tommy Lee. Dang it!
