Happy 2007 World! Here’s to the best year ever!
As my first post of the new year, I’d like to share an exchange which happened in the middle of the night between Grampy and his hospital roommate Gilbert. They were both afflicted by a mysterious pain which kept them up at night – first groaning and then conversing with each other in a very existential way. They could not see each other as their beds were separated by a sheet. So they were indeed only voices in the dark.
GILBERT: Oh my god, it hurts so much. I’m going to die tonight!
GRAMPY: No, not tonight. Maybe tomorrow.
GILBERT: Who’s over there?
GILBERT: My name is Gilbert Ryzdale. Whom am I speaking with, please?
GRAMPY: (PAUSE) George Bush.
GILBERT: (PAUSE) Well, I guess that’s as good a name as any.
With Grampy’s mathematics and physics we never could tell what was racing through his noggin but at least now we know that the dementia hasn’t taken his sense of humor. Poor Gilbert. I wonder if he thought he was being answered by his subconscious?
