Jared Leto’s Makeup Secrets

I noticed, as I was thumbing through the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, that Jared Leto and I wear remarkably similar eye makeup. Perhaps because we have the same eye coloring. Leto’s fringy-goth, “progressive” 30 Seconds to Mars thing, however, is more how my makeup looks towards the end of the night.

One can get this look by applying light tan/buff (though mine says mauve, I think it’s mis-labeled) eyeliner with a blunt-ended pencil. It will help if the compote is a bit oily, rather than chalky, to create a smooth, even application. This particular eyeliner creates a shimmery, but understated look. A copper-color shadow on the lids should be done with shading at the edge and upper part in dark/light sienna colors of the same family. To complete the look, simply dab on a coat or two of dark brown or soft black mascara, making sure that it does not clump. I prefer not to coat the bottom lashes as you’ll inevitably, and more quickly, end up Leto-esque as the mascara mixes with the eyeliner.

As I am looking at Leto’s picture, I am struck by a strange feeling of deja vu. Where have I seen his stylings before? Oh yes, on Todd from Wedding Crashers. Careful, Leto, you’re just one hair gel squirt away from skeevy. Though perhaps your Hilton tryst has already said it all.
