Inspiration Point +

This weekend I picked Peggers up at the airport and we drove up to Santa Barbara to crash at Chez Berto with the Argentinian while Dr. Bertie was up in the Santa Ynez valley having a rollicking sweaty time at a hippie music festival. He ate beans and rice from a can and walked around with dirty feet. The temperatures soared above 113. The Argentinian forbade him to smoke weed on account of the potential for them to breed disfigured children. So he bugged us via cell phone A LOT.

Before the Argentinian’s party, she took us on a “small” 1.5 hour hike to Inspiration Point. I am incredibly out of shape and almost keeled over. But I made it to the top. Yay. And then I got to seem fit on the way down to the sweaty teenagers on a field trip desperately inquiring, are we almost at the top? No, the Argentinian says, not really. Below is the inspiring view. Beneath the clouds is the Pacific Ocean.

Sufficiently burning a trunk-load of calories on the mini-hike, we had a leisurely meal at Pacific Crepes where one must be prepared to speak French and accept whatever delicious food you are served in whatever way the proprietors feel you should have it. Our 45 minute wait time (sit down to first course) was a bit extreme but the food was excellent. I had a salad and the desert crepe with fresh blueberries, strawberries and a tablespoon’s worth of ice cream. Mmm.

Then we went to the Argentian’s party and ate some more food and listened to mature yet adventurous Latinas speak about the old world.

We wrapped up the fun with a trip to Hope Ranch to see Maria’s riding horse, Jafar. Hope Ranch is an uber wealthy area where the Pitt-Jolie clan are prone to hang out among the old-money east coasters and mega-billionaire software developers without souls.

The picture below was taken on our first evening in Santa Barbara. SB is a peninsula which is why the sun appears to be setting away from the ocean. With a delicious Thai buffet following this awesome scenery, it might have been the perfect day. Unfortunately Peggers was accosted by a homeless man in the parking lot and we had to dive into the car and lock the doors before he “whipped it out”.
